A Little Inspiration

Trio of Cupcakes - Early Espresso Sneak Peek (PPA38)

Well, it was a lot of work and it didn't turn out quite the way I had planned - the cupcakes are a little bigger than I would have liked...but I think it's pretty cute over all.  Can you see the dots on the white background?

I started with the sketch from the Pals Paper Arts Challenge (PPA38) and really wanted to try out the new In-Color "Early Espresso" and my favorite returning color Pink Pirouette (I have just enough scrap paper left to make a couple of small projects.).

Inspired by the cover of Stampin Up!'s May Success Magazine, I really wanted cupcakes on the card - made from paper.  Don't the cupcakes and chocolates look scrumptious?!?!

And I had a vision of ruffled ribbon along the top and bottom of the band.  I also wanted to use a chipboard cutout from the Matchbox Die - So, all of these elements are included.

Daffodil Delight #2

Sneak Peak #2 - because this yellow is just too much fun!

The card base is Old Olive Scalloped on 3 edges with a flip open whisper white card (no it won't stand on it's own).  I used Old Olive DSP as the background paper, the new In-Color Daffodil Delight (available July 1) for the lily and flowers and colored the cake with Blender Pens.

Daffodil Delight Sneak Peak

I'm sure you have heard about the Stampin' Up! Color Renovation that is going to occur this July with the new Idea Book & Catalog.  Well, I received my Success Magazine with a piece of each of the new In Colors and am I excited for the new catalog!

As I was putting this card together I saw Daffodil Delight sitting on my desk.  I couldn't help myself, I just had to punch a couple of flowers for this Mother's Day Card.

Isn't the yellow just yummy?  I created a pleated edge along the bottom of the cardin Bella Bleu DSP (it's a little difficult to see in the picture) and sewed the band along the top and the bottom.  To get the little flowers to curl, I wet both sides of the flower with water and scrunched the petals up.  They dry in the new buttercup shape.

The flower was made with the scallop circle punch.  I punched about 6 or 8 circles and folded and layered them on top of one another.  The button brad is Summer Sun and the little flowers are Daffodil Delight with Old Olive leaves (Sizzix Little Leaves).

I also decorated the inside.

MOM - Crazy Color Combo

Wow!  What a color combination!  I was inspired to make this card using large flowers after seeing these cinquefoils on a recent hike. 

I wanted to make a flower in purple and decided to go for the Rich Razzleberry.  When I found these bright yellow Summer Sun buttons on the shelf, I decided to go for it with Rich Razzleberry and Crushed Curry.

Feeling Green (Mojo 134)

I must be feeling the influence of green - leaves popping out, peas starting to shoot up in the garden and the grass turning green behind our house.  Perhaps that was the inspiration for this Mojo Monday (Moj134) card based on this sketch.

I rarely use just one color with a neutral but the Old Olive DSP with the emossing plate turned out quite well.

• Whisper White card base, layered with Old Olive card stock embossed with "Eyelet" texture plate (matches the DSP)
• The coordinating layers are Old Olive Designer Series Paper that matches perfectly
• Sentiment is from Well Scripted.  I used the matchbox die for the background and a coordinating Old Olive mat behind it.
• The sentiment was decorated with Tiny Tags in -you guessed it-Old Olive

The flower was made with Whisper White & Old Olive using the small heart punch and 5 petal punch along with a little sponging and Tombow glue to hold it together.

Vintage Lilies

With all of the great submissions at Pals Paper Arts Challenge, I was inspired to make this card using this easy to follow tutorial for the lilies.

I started with a vanilla card base, ran it through the BigShot with the Flourishes background, added a light sponging of Soft Suede and then made the band using Very Vintage jumbo wheel with Soft Suede ink.

The lilies are made of Vanilla and the 5 petal punch, sponged with Soft Suede and twine for the centers.  Another pass through the BigShot for the Little Leaves and a sentiment from Well Scripted punched out and adhered with a brad finished the card.

I think it looks pretty romantic...

Bella Bleu Butterfly Birthday

I hope you all don't mind one more Bella Bleu card, especially one covered in butterflies!  This card is simple to make - just a few layers of paper, some butterflies (Sizzix "Beautiful Wings" Embosslits), and a quick & easy sentiment stamped and punched.

I love how the butterflies look with the different paper patterns.  So simple and yet so elegant.

Vintage Birthday (PPA37)

Can you ever have too many birthday cards?  Especially cards with flowers?  This week, the Pals Paper Arts Challenge is Flowers (PPA37).  And, they are giving away Blog Candy - so be sure to upload your card too.

 I started with a card base of Not Quite Navy, layered Vanilla (punched with the Eyelet Scallop edge punch), and then a layer of Sahara Sand stamped with Very Vintage jumbo wheel in Soft Suede (which I colored a bit with colored pencils).

 The flower is in Rose Red (on Vanilla) with a splash of Soft Suede sponged on the center to deep in the color and a Kraft Button in the center.

Leaves are Soft Suede and Kraft (sponged in Soft Suede).

Finally, the sentiment from Happy Moments was stamped in Soft Suede on Vanilla and punched out and layered on the modern label.

A bit of Rose Red ribbon on the side finishes the card (along with a little butterfly of course).

Brother's Birthday

Well, this is a bit of a deviation from the past several cards...

I was originally inspired by a card on page 19 of the Summer Mini Catalog to create a card with a fold over tab in Old Olive on the left side and use twine through grommets.  That is where this similarity ends and this takes off.

Since I don't have loads of boy images to use, I decided on the Pendant Park tree as the background image.  I stamped it in Old Olive on Vanilla card stock and distressed the image by tearing the edge, rumpling the corner and sponging the image in Soft Suede.  You'll also notice that the image isn't perfectly stamped.

The last touch was to sand the Dusty Durango to soften the color and make it look a little aged (though that may not show up on your computer screen).

I also wanted a border on the 'tab' so I punched it with the Scallop Eyelet punch and then cut the rings off.

Vintage Bleu Birthday (MOJO133)

Wow!  That's a lot of layers!  There are 13 pieces of paper from the card base to the top sentiment.  I think this might need an extra stamp :-)

I started with the sketch for MOJO Monday (Mojo133) and rotated the card.

I started with a Kraft card base and then

• layered Not Quite Navy, Vanilla, and Bella Bleu DSP
• repeated this with the squares (changing the order)
• added the band punched with the eyelet scallop punch
• cut the ovals with the Cricut
• stamped Vintage Vogue vines in Not Quite Navy
• sponged the edges with Soft Suede for a lightly distressed look
• flowers were stamped, punched & layered with a bronze brad
• the butterfly was also lightly distressed with Soft Suede to help it stand out
• finally, dimensionals to adhere the oval
• I think I'll add a layer inside the card - vanilla with some vines and a little sponging to tie the two together

Tip: for a not so bold look on the vines & flowers, I inked the stamp, stamped a piece of scrap paper (very lightly) and then stamped the image on the oval.  This really softened the color.
